The Austin Revolution and San Angelo Revolution Film Festivals honor late OC Communication professor Dave Jurney
The Austin Revolution and San Angelo Revolutions Film Festivals recently announced they are adding a new category in honor of the late David Jurney, who taught film classes at Oklahoma Christian University. The festivals have always tried to find new ways to support and highlight the many voices across the indie film landscape, and specifically this programming block for Faith Based Films. The festivals’ organizers say this is just one of the many ways that they plan to honor Jurney and his contributions to independent film.
OC’s Program Chair for Communication Brian Simmons commented on the new honor.
"It is fitting that David Jurney's peers recognize his contributions to independent, faith-based films,” said Simmons. “This recognition ensures that the next generation of young filmmakers know in whose footsteps they are following."
The Austin Revolution Film Festival was created in 2015 to help smaller indie filmmakers network and build up the community of indie filmmaking. The festival focuses on the indie filmmaker as the star, creating press opportunities, networking and collaboration. Awards are also given in a wide variety of categories including features, shorts, web series, music videos and screenwriting. The festival lasts around three days. All three days consist of film screenings with the final day having awards. Similarly, the San Angelo Film Festival runs for a few days at the end of September and the beginning of October. Jurney and his students won numerous awards at the festivals over the years.
Jurney was also the director of OC’s Eagle Media and Eagle Film. He was also an OC alumnus, graduating in 1995 with a B.S. in Communication, and in 2004 with a Masters in Business Administration.
