Each year, Oklahoma Christian University Eagle Public Relations alumni continue to make OC proud by excelling at their chosen field of study. Laura Twagirayezu is one OC alumna who is a trailblazer in international relations. Twagirayezu's current position with the SolidAfrica nonprofit and her past work with Voice of America brings attention to how OC gives the students an excellent foundation to achieve their goals.

Upon graduation in 2018, Twagirayezu, a native of Rwanda, moved to Washington, D.C., to intern at Voice of America Radio. Voice of America Radio is the largest and oldest international broadcast network with funding from Congress. The network provides approximately 1,800 hours of TV and radio content every week to a worldwide audience of 237 million in 45 different languages.

During Twagirayezu's five-month internship with VOA, her duties included assisting with all production areas with various radio shows. Specifically, Twagirayezu created content for the shows, conducted interviews and co-hosted the VOA entertainment program called The RM Show. Twagirayezu used her public relations degree to make the content for Voice of America's social media accounts and the website's news section.

Upon finishing her internship with VOA, Twagirayezu interned with the American Bank Association and 734 Brewing Company in Washington, D.C., to further apply the skills learned at OC.

Twagirayezu's diligence led to a position with the nonprofit SolidAfrica. Her role at SolidAfrica is wide-ranging. Twagirayezu has involvement in all areas such as budgeting, long-term strategies for the company, scheduling food deliveries to hospitals, monitoring food supplies and  managing the kitchen staff. She also creates and curates the content for SolidAfrica’s social media accounts and website.

When asked about Twagirayezu's accomplishments, Associate Professor of Communications Josh Watson praised her.

"We are happy we could prepare her for success while she was an undergraduate at OC," he said. "Twagirayezu had one of the best work ethics I have seen in a student. I knew she would be a major player.”
