Facebook pro and advertising expert Dennis Yu inspired OC students and area pros

Yu shared examples of how students could follow in his footsteps and start successful careers in social media advertising.

February 5, 2020 - CEO of BlitzMetrics Dennis Yu visited Oklahoma Christian University to share his knowledge and experience with OC students and the surrounding community. While there, Yu visited classes, was a guest speaker on a student-led podcast and gave a series of workshops on using social media for personal branding to both students and Oklahoma City professionals.

In his free seminars, Yu explained how he utilized social media, specifically Facebook, to promote clients, himself and build relationships with others. He urged students to be bold in pursuing connections on social media. 

Cassidy Littlewood attended a seminar and had the opportunity to hear from Yu during a class visit.

“Yu showed us just how much of an expert in social media and creating connections he is, which is so impressive. At first, all I could think was ‘there’s no way I can do what he does,’” Littlewood said. “Then I realized with his advice and the willingness to reach out of your comfort zone, success like his is just within our reach.”

At both his seminar and his class visits, Yu asked for students to volunteer to make a video where they presented themselves and explained their goals for the future. He encouraged those willing to make videos to use services like Fiverr to elevate their recordings.

Jessica Crespino was one student who Yu helped create a promotional video.

“Now that I've done it, I wouldn't hesitate to make another one. What I learned through the experience was that the first step is not as daunting as it might seem in concept, and the only way to learn is to try it,” Crespino said. “Once you try it, then you know how to do it better, but you won't know until you take that first step, even if you don't feel prepared."

Yu was invited to OC by Associate Professor of Communication Josh Watson, and Yu spoke in Watson’s Media Writing, Managing Social Media and Public Relations Principles classes. 

“Dennis is such an open and giving person who loves helping students,” Watson said. “His visit was even more beneficial to OC students than I had hoped. I look forward to continuing to work with him in classes and bring him back to OC soon.”
