The ongoing pandemic is altering Oklahoma Christian University’s annual homecoming events. OC is lowering the amount of in-person attendance at their annual homecoming musical on Nov. 10 at 6 pm. Due to the ongoing effects of COVID-19, in-person attendance has a limit of 250 students, faculty and staff. A requirement of attending the event is wearing a mask. To comply with health mandates, OC has a livestream of this year’s musical, “Songs America Sings: Cinderella and Friends.” The livestream allows families, friends and supporters to see the musical and enable some participation in this annual event that brings the OC community together.

The homecoming musical is a long-standing tradition at OC. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, parents, students and alumni always came back to participate in the festivities. Community involvement is an integral part of maintaining school spirit and pride, so online participation options were important this year. Attendees will enjoy classic songs from the 1950 animated film.

Mikayla Mckinzie is one of the leads of “Songs America Sings: Cinderella and Friends.” Despite the added pressure of COVID-19, the students involved in the musical put in hard work for several months to prepare for this one-night production.

“In the past, we have performed shows like “The Little Mermaid,” “Oklahoma” and “Anything Goes,” Mckinzie said. “Due to COVID-19, this year will look a little different. We are still so excited that we get to have a show. Adding to the excitement is having Rebekah Bruce Parker, OC alumni and music director of the Broadway hit show, “Mean Girls,” on-campus as our conductor for the show.”
