Oklahoma Christian University keeps an expansive list of accomplishments from alumni. Katy McFadden became a recent addition as she received the Site Teacher of the Year award at Frontier Elementary in Edmond, Oklahoma. The 2012 OC graduate is now in the running for the district teacher of the year.

McFadden serves as a Gifted and Talented Education teacher at Frontier Elementary school, located in the Edmond school district. After graduating with a degree in elementary education, McFadden has also given back to OC as a teaching adjunct in education technology.

OC’s Program Chair for the School of Education, Darin Martin, remembered McFadden as her former academic advisor.

“She was always professional, on top of things and very confident,” Martin said. “Once she got into the school system, she took off with educational technology, even getting some special certifications.”

When asked about her relationship with OC after her certification, Martin included her continued visits to OC as both an adjunct and practicum supervisor.

“We’ve used Katy as a practicum supervisor in the schools where we send out OC students,” Martin said. “We knew she was a leader already, and we’re glad that she accepted the position to be an adjunct professor for our educational technology class.”

The OC School of Education offers a competitive program with graduates having a 100% graduation rate, and alumni like McFadden help prepare the way for the next generation of teachers.
