Three OC art students, Elizabeth Potts, Siri Rittirong and Josh Davis, were accepted into the 2020 publication of Graphis’ New Talent Annual out of thousands of submissions worldwide. Since 1944, Graphis publishes and promotes the best work in design, advertising, art/illustration and photography as determined by professional judges. The annual competition promotes embracing the rising talent among students learning in the industry.

Each submission could place either platinum, gold, silver or honorable mention. The winners’ works are printed in the hardcover Annuals magazine. Platinum and Gold winners receive full-page exposure.

Sophomore Elizabeth Potts received a silver placement for her art, “Tea Kettle,” that she designed and created for her digital design class. The class was prompted to redesign a bad logo for print.

“I am overwhelmed to have placed silver,” Potts said. “I am proud to represent OC’s Art + Design department. I would like to give a shout out to my professor, Ms. Hussey, for going out of her way to get everything finalized and encouraging me to submit my work. You can find my art on page 22.”

Siri Rittirong and Josh Davis also won silver recognitions with their pieces, “Swirlcup” and “Sharkeys” respectively.

Entries were judged by award-winning professionals such as Hoon-Dong Chung from Dankook University, Dan Humphreys of Curios Productions, Steve Krug of Krug Studios, Atsushi Ishiguro from OUWN, Rex Peteet of Studio/Peteet and Robert Talarcyzk of Dark Horse Design, among others. Up to 500 entries from each competition are included in the online archive for future reference.

Just a few months ago, three other OC students also had their work accepted by a competitive design magazine.
