Oklahoma Christian University offers an expansive variety of majors, including the option for students to study at its impressive Honors College. One English Writing alumnus from this prestigious program is Luke Swanson, a 2017 graduate set to release his latest book, “The Other Hamlet Brother.”

Released online on Feb. 11, the book covers the adventures of Tim Hamlet, the identical twin of the “famously melancholy Danish prince,” according to the publisher, Black Rose Writing.

“[When] tragedy rears its ugly head… Tim charts a course for home despite his better judgment, setting sights on Denmark for the first time in years. On his journey, he crosses paths with Nick Bottom, Romeo Montague, Prospero and other familiar faces, all the while on a collision course with fate.” (BlackRoseWriting).

Swanson, who also had minors in History and International Studies, has a deep love for writing that started from a young age. He began writing books earnestly in high school. When asked about his experiences at OC, Swanson mentioned his appreciation for members of the English Program.

“I’d like to thank professors Cami Agan, Travis Montgomery and [former professor] Willie Steele,” Swanson said. “They really instilled their love of literature in me. Their passion for words was contagious.”

Jim Baird, the director of OC’s honors program, remembers Swanson fondly.

“He turned his one-hour Honors Catalyst project into his first novel, ‘The Ten,’ which is a kind of gruesome murder mystery,” Baird said. “ He has just kept rolling since graduation.”

Swanson’s book is available onAmazon, Barnes & Noble's website and theBlack Rose Writing site.
