Artists, programmers and gaming enthusiasts join Oklahoma Christian University and their award-winning Gaming and Animation program this week as they prepare for the annual Global Game Jam. Despite the pandemic, students still have the opportunity to join in this exciting, game-making event virtually to connect with other creatives worldwide.

OC students of all majors and backgrounds come together to plan for the Global Game Jam, an annual 48-hour game-development marathon. Those who participate have the opportunity to turn their skills and passions into reality as they work with a team to create a game based on a theme created by the GGJ committee. This year’s theme, announced Jan. 27, is “Lost and Found.”

The GGJ looks a bit different in 2021 as, instead of hosting the event live in the Sparks Lab and classrooms on campus, the event allows for online participation to abide by COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. The event begins on the evening of Jan. 28 and concludes the morning of Jan. 30.

Instructor of Gaming and Animation Ellie Kirkner was the 2020 Lead Global Game Jam Site Organizer for OC as well as the director of OC’s International Game Developers Association chapter. Although the beloved instructor moved over Christmas break, Kirkner continues to teach virtually and helps coordinate with the students, faculty and site organizers for this year's event.

OC students and alumni of all majors can register for free on the GGJ website, RSVP on Facebook and join the conversation and/or ask questions through the IGDA online Discord. Contact igda@oc.edu for more information.
