Oklahoma Christian University can add history alumna Lynneth Miller Renberg to a long list of published academics. Renberg is the co-editor of the book “The Cursed Carolers in Context,” a collection of scholars’ writing on a group of villagers in Saxony in England.
According to the publisher of the book, Routledge, the group skips a “Christmas mass to perform a circle dance in a cemetery, only to be cursed and forced to keep dancing for a whole year. By approaching the story in specific historical context, the book shows how the story of the cursed carolers became a space in which medieval readers, writers and listeners could debate the meaning and significance of a surprising variety of questions, including ecclesiastical authority, gender roles, pastoral responsibility and the conduct of crusades.”
OC celebrates Renberg accomplishing this career milestone. This is likely the first of many books from her. To learn more about the book, visit Routledge’s website here.
