In just a few years, Oklahoma Christian University’s family sciences students have steadily grown their honor society. On Oct. 21, the officers of Gamma Xi, OC’s chapter of the family sciences honor society Phi Upsilon Omicron, and Bobby Kern, professor of psychology and family science, inducted six family science majors into the organization. The induction ceremony was held in Cail Auditorium to recognize the 2020 inductees. The induction was scheduled to occur in spring of 2020 but due to COVID-19, the induction ceremony had to be rescheduled for this fall.
Gamma Xi President Allie Steward, Vice President Rosie Hagerman and Treasurer and Secretary Maddison Ingraham, with Kern, the chapter advisor, helped to welcome the new members of the society and give them letters of membership. The new inductees are Jaycie Carroll, Brielle Buxton, Monique McKeever, Hannah Siebold and Elizabeth Stein.
Steward is the first president of the Gamma Xi chapter at OC.
“I am honored to be the first chapter president,” she said. “I hope as the first chapter president I have laid a solid foundation for future presidents to work from.”
During the ceremony, Phi Upsilon officers congratulated the new members and spoke to them about the opportunities that this membership allows. Afterward, Tina Winn, professor of psychology and OC’s division chair for Education, Behavioral and Social Sciences, congratulated the new inductees on their membership and encouraged them to be scholars and leaders in the honors society.
