Kimberlee Rhodes is an Oklahoma Christian University alumna living her dream of being a writer in New York City. She graduated in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and public relations. Throughout her time at OC, Rhodes served as a staff writer for the Talon and held a Student Government Association position.

After graduating, she worked in a few positions in Tulsa, Oklahoma, such as a social media assistant at Speakeasy Market Strategies, a social media coordinator at Topeca Coffee and an administrative assistant at the Stan Johnson Company.

One week before her 30th birthday, Rhodes decided to follow her dreams and move to New York City. She settled for a year while working at a local coffee shop before landing a spot at the famous blog “A Cup of Jo” as an associate editor.

Associate Professor of Communication Josh Watson, who advised Rhodes, is impressed by her career and example for current OC students.

“Kim had such a great personality while at OC, and she knew how to write well,” he said. “It’s a testament to her hard work and dedication that she has been so successful. I love that she moved beyond the comforts of her home state, and it’s not surprising that “A Cup of Jo” happily hired her.”

Recently, Rhodes wrote a story about another OC alumna, Emily Elliott, who is a photographer in New York. To read Rhodes’ work, or to follow along with her success, connect with her on LinkedIn, follow her on Instagram or look for her work at www.cupofjo.com.
