After graduating from Oklahoma Christian University with a degree in public relations, Skye Latimer has enjoyed an impressive career that spans various industries. She made a point not to limit herself to one area of expertise, living by the words “If you can’t find the perfect fit, build it.”

In January, Latimer was named co-owner and partner at Folded Owl. Founded in 2012, Folded Owl is a female-owned marketing and communications firm based in Oklahoma City. The company provides services for business owners such as marketing, communications, web design and consulting.

Along with her new position, Latimer is in charge of programs focused on diversity, equity and inclusion marketing. These programs are part of Folded Owl’s effort to do more for workplaces and their communities. Latimer will help companies prioritize diversity and inclusion within their marketing strategies as well as build better workplace environments.

Latimer is very passionate about DEI, and she is particularly excited to apply it within her everyday professional work.

“It's just as crucial for potential customers and employees to feel seen, heard, respected and valued in the digital space as it is in a physical space,” Latimer said. “I get to serve in a niche area where the two worlds collide and teach teams how to cultivate their images, language and videos in ways that invite everyone in.”

OC’s Communications program left a lasting impact on Latimer’s experience in the professional world. She still uses insights from the media ethics class with Distinguished Professor of Communication Philip Patterson, stating that “it was the most enlightening and morally challenging class I can remember.”

Skye has benefited from OC both academically and spiritually. She connects her work with her spiritual life daily.

“The intersection of DEI work and marketing absolutely calls upon my knowledge and relationship with Jesus,” Latimer said. “If I am to guide teams and help foster spaces of belonging, it helps to live the values I learned at OC out loud. I think being diversity-, equity-, inclusion-, justice- and belonging-focused is exactly what Jesus would do.”
