OC to add new official TEFL certificate

The certification will now be designated specifically on students' transcripts.

March 15, 2020 - The Oklahoma Christian University Department of Language and Literature strives to create the best opportunities for their students, and the department now has the added advantage of a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate that will show up clearly on a student’s transcript. The certificate will make it easier for employers and government officials to see qualifications without reading through transcripts, according to Gail Nash, OC’s professor of English.

The TEFL certification is required by almost all countries' governments for students to teach English as a foreign language. Before this change, OC TEFL majors and minors were unable to teach in many countries without the officially recognized certificate on the transcript.

“These new changes enhance OC students' abilities to be hired in foreign countries,” Nash said.

TEFL majors and minors will take the same courses as before, but now the TEFL certification is streamlined specifically on the transcript. For students who strive to teach abroad, this distinction will enable them to get jobs and work visas more easily.

The TEFL certification is an add-on certification for non majors/minors. Any student can take the nine hours of TEFL courses for the TEFL Certification. To learn more visit the Department of Language and Literature online.
