The Oklahoma Christian University Chamber Orchestra performed its second spring concert April 15 in Judd Theater. The pandemic brought many challenges for the Chamber Orchestra, such as absences, as each member is considered a crucial component to the ensemble. Thankfully, students worked diligently to make the concert a success by practicing COVID-19 safety protocols and using their talents to spread the joy of music.
The orchestra played the Don Quixote suite by Georg Phillip Telemann, a popular suite based on Cervantes’s “Don Quixote.” Sophomore Lily Blanchard conducted two pieces by Edward Elgar, Chanson de Nuit and Chanson de Matin. The special performance featured the talented wind players from OC’s Symphonic Band.
Gena Alexander, an adjunct music professor at OC, explained the most rewarding aspect of musicianship.
“Music connects, music heals and music unites,” she said. “For both musicians and nonmusicians alike, the power and the necessity of music (and musical expression) has never been more apparent than during this past year.”
