OC’s Eagle Media in the Communication Program to play a crucial role in homecoming

Eagle Media to livestream and record video of homecoming activities Nov. 5-7.

Due to COVID-19, Oklahoma Christian University’s homecoming ceremonies are not open to the public. To ensure that alumni will not have to break tradition and that OC continues to follow CDC guidelines, OC is providing access to homecoming events online. To do this successfully, OC’s Eagle Media team, a vital part of the Communication Program, will livestream and broadcast the various activities included in OC’s 70th annual homecoming. 

Eagle Media will be responsible for filming most of the activities that occur during the week of, including the Commons Celebration. This events consists of displaying the “living game board” sculptures made by clubs, live music and Christmas lights on Nov. 6. Eagle Media students will also provide coverage on Saturday’s homecoming chapel at 11 a.m. as well as the homecoming court and fireworks starting at 5:10 p.m. on the same day. 

Eagle Media students will also promote events via social media by filming and editing clips to be broadcasted later throughout the week. The Nov. 4 Eagle Angle episode will include coverage of alumni and a preview of the musical “Songs America Sings - Cinderella and Friends.” 

Blake Mayfield is the Eagle Media student manager and director of Eagle Angle. He is responsible for a lot of the coverage for homecoming, a new challenge for him and the Eagle Media team. Although the students in Eagle Media have a big role to take on, Mayfield believes they are ready. 

“The students are taking their roles responsibly and helping out a lot by using the experiences that they have learned from their classes and through our Eagle Media practicum class,” Mayfield said. “It’s an interesting opportunity for everyone to use their skills, and it’s a new experience for all of us.”
