Oklahoma Christian University encourages its students to pursue and facilitate unique opportunities on campus. One such opportunity is the ability to host a live radio broadcast through the Eagle Media team. To raise awareness about the team’s Eagle Radio shows, students hosted a Radio Day where they broadcast their shows live from the student center, giving out prizes and interacting with students.
OC junior Trinity Carpenter plays a large role in the work produced by Eagle Media and had the original idea for Radio Day as a way to get more students on campus involved with their radio station.
“Our radio station staff puts together shows with several hosts, and they do a lot of hard work and really deserve the recognition,” Carpenter said. “We want to build a relationship between the radio station and the rest of the campus.”
In 2019, the team first introduced this awareness campaign as a week-long event, full of prizes and spotlights for each show on Eagle Radio. However, due to COVID-19 and Eagle Media’s large role in Homecoming this year, the students decided to condense the campaign into a single Radio Day to kick off the Homecoming festivities.
Setting up the station live in the student center allowed the hosts to bring students on the air and take suggestions for songs or conversation topics throughout the day. It was a great event to not only showcase the hosts of Eagle Radio and all of their hard work, but to also show the rest of campus all of the unique and fun opportunities Eagle Media has on campus.
To further incentivize awareness and interaction with the broadcast, Eagle Radio announced an incredible giveaway for a pair of Apple Airpods.
“I think this giveaway really encouraged students to interact with us in the student center,” Carpenter said. “Plus, now they can listen to Eagle Radio on their new earbuds.”
