After a long year of strictly virtual events, students and faculty in the Oklahoma Christian University Music Program are thrilled to host an in-person choir concert this spring. The performance is free and available both in-person and via live stream April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the McIntosh Conservatory, located inside the Garvey Center..

This choral performance will feature three choirs: OC’s Chamber Singers, women’s chorale and the men’s choir. The three groups are audition-based and comprised of both music and nonmusic majors. Each choir meets multiple times a week in preparation for concerts.

Audiences should expect a concert of music from different cultures of the world. The following composers will be featured: Eric Whitacre, Jake Runestad, Pavel Chesnokov, David Childs and others. Kyle Pullen, OC’s choir director and professor of music, worked to ensure that each choir performs at its full potential, especially when introducing new genres of music from different cultures.

Pullen is also tasked with ensuring that his students can rehearse and perform while adhering to COVID-19 guidelines. This requires using dividers for each singer, physical distancing and masks.

“They are learning to continue in their music endeavors in a safe and enjoyable environment,” Pullen said. “The audiences will be able to hear that creativity and music-making can still be done under difficult circumstances.”

The concert is free to the public, although proper COVID-19 precautions will be taken, including spaced seating and checked temperatures before entering. Seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The concert will also be live-streamed athttp://www.oc.edu/live.
