Every spring, Oklahoma Christian University looks forward to the musical performances put on by students in the Music Program. The Spring Jazz Band Concert is an annual treat that brings the community together before the semester ends. The event is planned for April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Judd Theater. Admission is free.

The OC Jazz Band has a track record of bringing entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Professor of Music Heath Jones is excited for his students to perform a piece called “Spain” by Chick Corea, a keyboardist who passed away this past February.

“April is Jazz Appreciation Month, so this is a great opportunity to hear works from musicians who helped to broaden the scope of jazz,” said Jones.

Measures will be taken at the venue to ensure a fun and safe environment. For those wishing to attend in person, COVID-19 protocols will be followed via required masks and social distancing. A virtual experience is also being offered at oc.edu/live.

Related to the concert is a new summer course at OC. Jazz Appreciation will count as a Great Works course requirement, so the concert will be beneficial for students who are interested in that course.
