Oklahoma Christian University’s Symphonic Band and Steel Drum ensemble will perform together April 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Judd Theater. This is the first time this academic year that the two ensembles will perform together for one complete concert. All are welcome to attend the night full of music with free admission. Attendees are required to wear maks, and seating will be social distanced.
Both groups will perform selections on their own, but the two ensembles plan to combine for a finale of “Jump in the Line.” Along with their combined finale, the Steel Drum ensemble will play “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I, “Waka Waka” by Shakira and “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys. Additionally, the Symphonic Band will feature some student conductors from the Conducting II class taught by OC’s Symphonic Band Director and Professor of Music John Fletcher.
With a year of musical practice that limited performances during the pandemic, OC students are looking forward to a night where they can come together and share the music they have worked so hard on.
Junior steel drum member Bailee Sharp is confident and looking forward to the performance.
“The band has lots of talent this year, and it’s been one of my favorite years at OC, so I’m looking forward to performing and sharing it with everyone,” Sharp said.
In addition to free admission to the concert, the concert will be live-streamed at oc.edu/live.
