OC Gaming and Animation students help a local ad agency produce a film
The students were hired to contribute to some short, animated films in production this fall.
Oklahoma Christian University’s Gaming and Animation program is constantly successful: it is the No. 1 program in Oklahoma, and in 2019, was in the top 20 for Best Video Game Design Colleges from Successful Student. However, the program would not be what it is today without its talented students.
Recently, Oklahoma City's Boiling Point Media hired eight OC Gaming and Animation students to contribute to a couple of films being produced this fall.
According to Skyler Thomas, assistant professor of gaming and animation, the internship is preparing students for success.
“Some of the areas covered in the internship include animation, technical direction, modeling, texturing, compositing and lighting,” he said. “Since all these areas are included in our curriculum, this makes our students very versatile by the time they graduate.”
Caleb Dennis, a senior Gaming and Animation student, discussed his day-to-day tasks as an intern.
“Initially, the interns from OC focused on developing a 3-D environment that would be used in one of their upcoming movies,” he said. “Later on, the art director moved us to other projects: implementing special effects as well as keying footage.”
Garrett Hymer, a senior Gaming and Animation student, also shared his experiences interning with Boiling Point Media.
“Since I am only working an unpaid internship at the moment, the tasks can vary greatly,” he said. “I have worked on keying out green screen backgrounds for movie shots. I have also worked on visual effects for animated characters, which entailed making a certain ghost character look more ghostlike.”
Lizley Avila, a senior Gaming and Animation student, expressed her thoughts about interning with Boiling Point Media.
“Working at Boiling Point Media has been really enjoyable,” she said. “The environment is very relaxed, and the staff at Boiling Point has been very helpful and are amazing mentors.”
