OC Music Alumnus received honorable mention in the 2022 Yamaha Young Performing Artists competition
Spencer Bannister, an Oklahoma Christian University Music alumnus, was given an honorable mention award in the 2022 Yamaha Young Performing Artists competition. Thirteen winners and 10 honorable mention musicians were selected in a highly competitive process. The students demonstrated exceptional skill and artistry in their music careers.
The Yamaha Young Performing Artists program began in 1989 and invites young musicians to submit audio recordings of their solo performances. Instruments can include the piccolo, flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and many more. Bannister displayed excellent musical talents on the trombone.
OC Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands George Schrader commented on Bannister’s accomplishments.
“Spencer is the epitome of a Christian musician, whose ethics are built on the love of Christ, and who dedicates himself to perfecting his craft,” Schrader said. “We are incredibly proud of his accomplishments, and we look forward to hearing more from him as he pursues a master’s degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City conservatory. He is a blessed artist, and we are all so very proud of him.”
Congratulations to Bannister on this significant honor as he begins his graduate music career.
