EDMOND, Okla. - Students at Oklahoma Christian University invite the public to “Be Our Guest” for an evening of storytelling and iconic songs in the homecoming musical, “Beauty and the Beast.” The performances will be Nov. 1-2, at 7:30 p.m. in Baugh Auditorium.
“Beauty and the Beast” is a captivating musical adaptation of the classic Disney film based on a fairy tale; the musical features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and a book by Linda Woolverton. It tells the story of Belle, a young woman who finds herself in an enchanted castle held captive by the Beast, a prince cursed to appear monstrous. As Belle discovers the true nature of the Beast and the magic of the castle's enchanted objects, love and acceptance blossom, revealing that beauty lies within. With memorable songs, stunning visuals and themes of transformation and redemption, the musical celebrates the power of love to break barriers and heal hearts.
“I am honored and beyond excited to direct “Beauty and the Beast” for our 75th homecoming celebration,” Charlotte Hamil, the director of career services and director of the musical, said. “With an exceptional cast, stunning visuals and heartfelt storytelling, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to experience this beloved tale brought to life in a way that will inspire and leave you with memories to cherish. We invite you to "be our guest" and watch one of the last community productions of this show as it heads back to Broadway.”
Senior Madeline Lewis will portray Belle, and junior Houston Goff will play the Beast.
“Our students are doing a wonderful job of putting together a magical show,” Daniel Bircher, the new director of choral and vocal studies and the musical’s co-director, said. “I am very thrilled to share this with the OC community!”
