The NextGen Under 30 program honors Oklahoma professionals who excel in their workplace and community, especially at their young age. Out of the 1,200 Oklahomans nominated, this prestigious leadership recognition program chooses fewer than 300 individuals to commemorate. Oklahoma Christian University aluman Tori Jones received this honor after demonstrating drive, talent and innovation in her career. At just 27 years old, Jones’s quality of work in public relations, media, marketing and advertising stands out at a state-wide level.
Upon receiving a bachelor's degree in public relations and advertising from OC, Jones served in client relations and community outreach. The experience Jones acquired while working in different industries after college led her to land a job at Hughes Warren as the assistant director of client relations.
Jones’ role at her firm requires the ability to perform as a media specialist, videographer, photographer, copywriter, graphic designer, social media guru and more.
“You have to wear many hats to work in this industry, but doing what you love is worth every minute,” Jones said.
As her career has grown, so has her confidence as a woman in a competitive atmosphere. Although public relations is a field predominantly filled with women, men are still at an economic advantage in the workforce. Yet, Jones lives out of her belief that women are just as capable as men to succeed professionally.
“I’ve started to realize my worth in the workplace,” Jones said. “We should be paid, treated and accepted fairly and equally.”
While women in business have made great strides, there is still progress to be made. Jones is committed to her personal growth, with the potential to earn more recognition. However, the feeling of achievement also encourages her to help others along the way. To push the limits of success in the professional world, Jones encourages aspiring professionals to, “never stop learning!”
OC Associate Professor of Communication Josh Watson remembers Jones’s desire to reach the next level while she was in college.
“I will never forget how great Tori did at landing job interviews the semester she graduated,” Watson said. “She had a focused plan, and she was a finalist for multiple jobs. She has done great work everywhere she went, and that has opened doors to new opportunities that she has continued to excel in. She is very deserving of this honor.”
OC congratulates Jones for being honored as a recipient of the NextGen Under 30 and encourages the public to watch the 10th annual award ceremony that streamed online this past January. The ceremony and more details on the award are available online.
