OC’s Dean of the College of Humanities and Bible publishes theological scholarship

Charles Rix had a number of scholarly works published in 2021.

Charles Rix is most known for his title as dean of the College of Humanities and Bible at Oklahoma Christian University, but his expertise in theological scholarship is also impressive. Rix, who is also an accomplished pianist and retired business executive, published three works in the last year.

His creative expertise was demonstrated in his chapter published in the “Oxford Handbook of Feminist Criticism of the Hebrew Bible.” Rix’s chapter was titled “Gaming with Rahab and the Spies.” He also presented a paper at the Christian Scholars Conference last year at Lipscomb University. Rix’s paper was titled “Isaiah, Beethoven, and the Prophetic Voice.”

A little earlier, Rix reviewed “A Guide to Christian Art” by Diane Apostolos-Cappadona for OC’s theological journal Dialogismos. Rix tapped into various subjects and displayed his passion for art, writing and Biblical knowledge in the review.

Currently, Rix is working on a chapter about the Book of Judges for an upcoming publication by scholars in the church of Christ, which will be published by Abilene Christian University Press.

Rix also recently traveled with students to Greece for OC’s resumption of study abroad programs. At OC’s Das Millicanhaus in Vienna, the musical performance space is named in his honor, which is one small way OC has thanked Rix for his diverse interests and expertise that benefit students, alumni and employees.
