OC’s Communication Program has short films accepted into film festivals

The Oklahoma Christian University Communication Program produced two short films that were recently accepted into competitive film festivals. The films, which were student-produced, had to compete against professional filmmakers just be accepted into the festivals.

OC’s film “10 minutes” will be screened at the Austin Revolution Film Festival, which runs Feb. 15-19. At the festival, assistant professor of Communication David Jurney will also participate in a panel discussion with other filmmakers. “10 Minutes” is about a college student with a bright future who meets a woman who’s long anticipated her death, moments before the world ends. They are both suddenly forced to deal with the weight of mortality while an extinction event kills them and everyone they know.

The second film, “Assisted Living,” is about a college student who faces an unfortunate circumstance that leads him to move into an assisted living facility with a cranky, old man. This film will be screened at the Simply Indie Film Festival Feb. 24-26. “Assisted Living” will also be screened at the Beloit International Film Festival. This particular festival lasts for ten days. This year, those dates are Feb 26 through March 6.

Currently, OC Communication students are also working on another project that they are hoping to complete in 2022 and push out to festivals within the next year. The project is a documentary about the Unaware Project, which entails OC students working with students in a juvenile correctional facility on creative writing, ultimately resulting in a published collection with writings from both groups of students.
