PR alumna Skye Latimer named to the Journal Record’s Power List

In February, Oklahoma Christian University Public Relations alumna Skye Latimer was named to the Journal Record’s Power List for workplace diversity in Oklahoma City. She was chosen because of her passion for her diversity, equity and inclusion advocacy and training.

Associate Professor of Communication Josh Watson spoke highly of his former student.

“Skye is such a respected and accomplished leader and communications expert in the state,” he said. “She is an in-demand expert on helping organizations authentically and effectively become diverse and inclusive. She is such a worthy choice for this list of leaders in Oklahoma City.

Latimer is passionate about both culture and community. She is a founding member of Black Women Voices in Oklahoma City as well as a founding Chairperson for Equity Brewing Company's Trust. As Journal Record highlighted, Police brutality and injustice have pushed Latimer to participate in the ShareTheMic conversation to give Black creators the space to showcase their abilities.

Latimer serves as the vice president of innovation at We The People Consulting, a Native woman-owned management consulting firm in the Oklahoma City metro. Through her career work, Latimer seeks to shed light on the capabilities of historically excluded voices and people by partnering with diverse and underrepresented people to create spaces for those who have been left out by history.

"Thank you to The Journal Record for this recognition. This is especially meaningful because 10 years ago I was on the sales team for [the Journal Record], and now I’M IN IT!" Latimer said in a post on LinkedIn.

Not only did Latimer  receive the Journal Record recognition, but she is also a past honoree for the Next Generation 30 Under 30, a class Matters Dream Building Mentor, and was recognized by People Magazine in 2016. Latimer earned her degree in 2012, and she was also the president of the Black Student Union during her time at OC.
