On Feb. 22, 2020, the Oklahoma Christian University Cabaret and Jazz Bands opened for the “Legends in Concert” show at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater in Branson, Missouri. The Cabaret Director at the time, Terry Atteberry, told the students they could one day work for a professional band after graduation.

One day became a reality for one of those students: 2021 alumnus Garrett Minor. He left OC this summer to make his home in Branson, Missouri, where he plays a Pearl drum set in the very same “Legends in Concert” at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater.

“It happened pretty quickly,” Minor said. “I wasn’t expecting to find this job, but I auditioned one week, was hired and then started playing the very next week.

Minor has played the drums since he was 8 years old. He comes from a line of talented musicians, including his mom, Sarah Minor, a 1995 alumna, and his grandmother, Kathy Thompson, who is an OC adjunct faculty member.

“I am really glad with how it worked out and grateful for the opportunity to begin my career at Legends,” he said.

If ever in Branson, be sure to check out “Legends in Concert” and look for Minor on the drums.
