OC’s student-run literary and visual arts journal accepting submissions for 2022
Soundings is accepting submissions until Feb. 8.
Soundings, the student-led literary and visual arts journal, has been a part of Oklahoma Christian University’s campus for nearly 50 years. Each year, Soundings publishes a journal filled with literary and visual arts filled with student, faculty, staff and alumni contributions.
Currently, Soundings is accepting submissions until Feb 8. After submissions close, the staff, which includes many OC College of Humanities and Bible students, will go through each piece and decide which ones will be accepted in the journal before publishing it in April.
Ann Magner, senior editor of Soundings and an English/Writing major, explained the importance of Soundings to her, and to the campus.
“Soundings is the reason I started writing poetry in the first place,” Magner said. “I tried my luck, got accepted into the journal and have continued writing poetry since then. Since joining Soundings my sophomore year, it has continued to help me share my love of poetry as well as learn about and appreciate other art forms. I've tried to fulfill the Soundings mission to promote the arts on campus, and I hope our work helps others discover or refine a talent in the arts.”
Jade Warren, PR and events director for Soundings and an English Education major, reflected on the impact Soundings has had on her life.
“It's been a joy to be a part of Soundings this year,” she said. “It is a real privilege to be in a position where it's my job to read and look at amazing creative works. I wish I had applied sooner; it has even helped me with my own writing.”
According to the Soundings website, “Soundings is ‘an exhibition of artistic minds’ that brings together the exceptional talents of the OC community, giving undiscovered writers and artists the opportunity to showcase their work in a professionally printed publication. We strive to unite a coalition of creative, administrative and technical minds, establish a tradition for exceptional work and honor the achievements of past journals, while setting high expectations for future endeavors.”
