OC Cabaret offers a fresh look for this traditional show Feb. 15-19

The theme for Cabaret in 2022 is “A Night of Song and Dance.”

Each year around Valentine’s Day, Oklahoma Christian University’s Music Program stages a Cabaret performance featuring a mix of romantic songs, dances and short scripted scenes. Often, these songs are classics from Broadway, movies or the radio. For three decades, OC’s Cabaret performance has been a popular show in the community, selling out nearly every year.

This year’s Cabaret performance is titled “A Night of Song and Dance” and is directed by Kyle Pullen, an OC professor of music. The show will feature a variety of genres including pop, rock, musical theater, country and more. The show comprises music from every decade dating from the 1960s to the present. Performances will take place in Judd Theater Feb. 15-19 at 7 p.m.

Professor of Music Kyle Pullen serves as the producer and music director. He shared his thoughts concerning the exciting and engaging performance.

“It is a very high-energy show this year with fast-paced choreography,” Pullen said. “I look forward to seeing and hearing songs that everyone knows.”

Students performing in the show spend around 17 hours a week in rehearsals leading up to the opening. Multiple singers make up the 25-student cast of the show, but the soloists this year are Anna Wolf (junior), Jalyn Green (senior), Benjamin King (senior), Kelan Owen (junior), Hudson Woodard (sophomore) and Logan Riddle (senior).

In addition to Pullen, Barbara Berard is the choreographer and, and Professor of Music Heath Jones is the band director. Assistant PRofessor of Art and Design Amy Beauchamp designed the set, and Blake Mayfield is the sound and light engineer.
