OC’s Music Program sent multiple music groups on tour this April
On April 8-11, the chorale and the jazz ensemble performed musical pieces for audiences in multiple states, including Kansas, Nebraska and Texas.
Oklahoma Christian University’s Music Program planned an exciting trip for their students on April 8-11. This year, there was the annual chorale tour and a related jazz ensemble tour that performed to music audiences in three different states.
Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music George Schrader led one of the groups, the symphonic band, who performed “Bells of Scotland” alongside the Jazz Band.
Three Jazz Band soloists, senior Spencer Banister, senior Bailee Sharp and sophomore Sam Vaughn comprised the combination band, along with some percussionists.
Banister reflected on the experience.
“We spent one night in Wichita, where we heard a concert by traditional jazz musician Gunhild Carling, and then traveled to Omaha, where we visited the Omaha Zoo and performed at Southwest Church of Christ,” he said. “This was the band’s first tour in several years; the performance went very well and everyone had a great time. I’m from Omaha, so it was really special to get to see old friends and family and perform in my home town.”
Spencer's church in Omaha, Nebraska, hosted the jazz and symphonic bands for their performance.
On April 9, OC's Chorale traveled to Canyon, Texas, and performed with the West Texas A&M Chorale for the Russian Music Festival. The West Texas A&M Chorale is led by the twin brother of OC’s choral director, Kyle Pullen.
It was a wonderful time for both the students and attendees.
