Oklahoma Christian University’s Music Department invites the public to its free Winter Symphonic Band and Chamber Orchestra concert Feb. 18. The performance, which begins at 3 p.m. in Judd Theater, will honor Black History Month by featuring music by African American composers.
The OC Chamber Orchestra, led by Kaleb Benda, will feature music from African American composers to honor Black History Month. The OC Symphonic Band, directed by George Schrader, will feature popular music from operas including “The Marriage of Figaro Overture” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Nabucco Overture” by Giuseppe Verdi and “Nessum Dorma” from “Turandot” by Giacomo Puccini, which will feature OC student tenor soloist Jason Coon. Chamber students will also perform “The Grand March” from “Aida” by Verdi.
A symphonic band features metal and wind instruments which consist of trumpets, flute, oboe, clarinet and percussion instruments. They are usually bigger than the regular chamber orchestra, which features string instruments like the harp, violin, viola, cello and double bass.
The concert is free to the public. More information and directions can be found here.
