OC to host free magic show to benefit DSACO on Feb. 13

Oklahoma Christian University continues a magical tradition that helps the community support a great cause. Every year, the OC Psychology and Family Science Program hosts a magic show to benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma. This year, the show be in Cali Auditorium in DAH Feb. 13 from 5-7 p.m. Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to make a donation to assist DSACO.

The Psychology and Family Science Program has hosted this yearly magic show for nearly a decade. Funds raised have been donated to various charities in the area. Students of these programs help organize and run the show each year.

OC Professor of Psychology Ryan Newell has been performing in the magic show for years.

“I enjoy performing in this show,” Newell said. “Magic has been a lifelong hobby of mine.”

OC Professor of Family Science Bobby Kern is a colleague of Newell, and he is a past president of DSACO. OC students are supporters of his son, Josiah, who has Down syndrome. This brings the cause of DSACO close-to-home for many students.

The mission of the DSACO is to raise awareness, provide resources and promote acceptance and inclusion for people with Down syndrome. Each year, DSACO hosts several family-oriented events, education workshops and awareness campaigns to benefit those with Down syndrome.
