OC senior Madison Stephens awarded Fulbright Award to the Spanish Program

Madison Stephens, an OC senior double-majoring in Biology and Vocational Spanish with a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification, was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Award on April 4. Stephens is the first OC student to receive the Fulbright Award. 

Stephens was awarded one of the three English Teaching Assistant awards co-sponsored by the U.S. Embassy. As an ETA, Stephens will be teaching English as well as serving as an ambassador of the U.S. Stephens will be placed in Cuenca, Spain, and will serve from September 2024 to June 2025. 

Stephens shared what she is looking forward to most during this program.

“I am excited to serve as a cultural ambassador for the U.S. while improving my Spanish language skills through immersion!”

The Fulbright Program aims to advance scholars’ careers while being exposed to new cultures. Once they return home, students can bring new perspectives into conversations and contribute to solving international concerns through the exchange of ideas, studying, teaching and conducting research.
