OC History alumnus receives Distinguished Service Award from the Oklahoma State Regents
Oklahoma State Rep. Mike Osburn was honored for his support of higher education.
Oklahoma Christian University’s History graduates regularly enjoy career success, but few have been honored at a state level the way Mike Osburn has. This summer, the Oklahoma Representative received the Distinguished Service Award for Higher Education from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
John deSteiguer, president of OC, offered his congratulations to Osburn. Regents Chancellor Glenn D. Johnson also praised Osburn, who was honored for his support of higher education in his role as Chair of the Rules Committee and as a member of the Appropriations and Budget Committee.
“Through his steadfast support of funding for higher education, [Osburn] has shown that he recognizes the value of a college degree as an investment in Oklahoma’s current and future workforce,” Johnson said.
The OSR oversees Oklahoma’s 25 state colleges and universities. This includes setting academic standards and courses and approving budget allocations and tuition and fees within the limits set by the Oklahoma Legislature. The State Regents also run the Oklahoma College Assistance Program, which provides college access, aid awareness, financial literacy and student loan management programs and services for students and parents.
The annual Distinguished Service Awards for Higher Education is the highest award presented by the State Regents and the Council of College and University Presidents.
“I support higher education for all Oklahomans in my position in the state Legislature because I know its significance in helping individuals attain their dream jobs and a better quality of life,” Osburn said. “It is vital in growing our economy and building a better Oklahoma. I’m deeply honored to receive this award.”
