OC honors retired Bible professors Clyde Antwine and Bob Gregg

The two dedicated over decades to OC and were honored in chapel and a subsequent reception in the Garvey Center Oct. 5

Clyde Antwine and Bob Gregg were recognized for their teaching careers at Oklahoma Christian University. Antwine, supported by his wife Gwen, served at OC for 33 years. Gregg, alongside his late wife, Carolyn, taught at OC for 29 years. On Oct. 5, the two professors were honored through a reception in the McIntosh Conservatory before they addressed the students and faculty at chapel in Baugh Auditorium.

Gregg and Antwine reflected Christ both inside and outside of the classroom. While teaching at OC, Gregg served as the pulpit minister and as an elder at Lakehoma Church of Christ in Mustang, Oklahoma. Antwine spent time out of the country and directed the Helpers In Missions program. He led many mission trips to Germany with his wife.

OC President John deSteiguer expressed the significance of the two professors to OC.

“These two outstanding men have a combined 62 years of service to OC,” deSteiguer said. “Oklahoma Christian is a better place because of the service of men like Clyde Antwine and Bob Gregg.”

Each professor received a chance to speak on the impact OC has made on their lives.

During Antwine’s session, he spoke about his time in Germany and how he once believed the country was going to be his family’s home forever. When his plans changed and he started teaching at OC, the university changed his life. He expressed his gratitude for Lynn McMillon and the guidance McMillon provided for him during his time on campus. He ended his portion of the chapel talk with a special thanks to the university and the OC community.

During Gregg’s talk, he said there was one word to describe the reason that OC had such an impact on his life: students. While taking the stage, those same students were shouting and begging him to tell a joke, something Gregg is famous for. After his joke, he went on to praise his students and the university for being so welcoming to him and his wife.

Gregg and Antwine have left a legacy for future OC educators, constantly putting Christ first in helping to build a campus that many can call home.
