This year's Fall Symphonic Band Concert at Oklahoma Christian University will be Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. in Judd Theater. It will be free to the public. The band will perform “Advent Voices,” exploring the music and art related to the birth of Christ.

George Schrader, OC’s band director, intentionally designed the concert to provide a faith perspective through music.

“From our perspective, we know the result of the Christmas story, and we are joyful and thankful for the result,” he said. “However, Joseph and Mary did not share our perspective. We hope to capture this drama in our production.”

The concert will feature a variety of familiar Christmas music and the feature piece, “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed, is a staple in the wind band repertoire. The piece explores traditional Russian liturgical choral music. The piece is a beautiful, dramatic work, which perfectly captures the drama, uncertainty and glory of the events leading to the birth of Christ.
