Oklahoma Christian University welcomes new assistant professor of Gaming & Animation
Kelly Romeo joined OC as the new Assistant Professor of Gaming and Animation.
Oklahoma Christian University welcomed Kelly Romeo, the new assistant professor of Gaming and Animation this semester. He is excited to give back and provide his knowledge and wisdom to the Gaming and Animation students at OC. Additionally, students will benefit from hearing his advice on how to efficiently and effectively work in the industry as a Christian. Romeo’s mission is to prepare future game artists and designers who want to take the spirit of Christ into a cynical workplace and to make a difference by standing in the gap against the current cultural revolution.
Romeo is a welcome addition to the Gaming & Animation program, which is ranked by Princeton Review as the No. 1 Animation Program in Oklahoma, No. 10 Animation Program in the Southwest, No. 20 Best Video Game Design and No. 37 in Video Game Design. OC is confident Romeo will boost the program’s growth, based on his extensive experience in the industry and passion to give back to the next generation of game designers at OC.
“I worked in the video games industry for nearly 12 years and felt like I accomplished all the career goals I’d set out for myself,” he said. “By the end, I had helped to develop and grow an entirely new publishing department where I was the marketing art director and worked to publish titles like: “Bulletstorm,” “We Happy Few,” “Subnautica,” “Hello Neighbor,” “Godfall,” “Risk of Rain 2,” “Tribes of Midgard” and several others.
While Romeo’s career accomplishments are impressive, he found himself ready for a different kind of challenge.
“I managed a team of five designers; three graphic designers, a technical designer, and a cinematics artist,” he said. “I felt highly respected and valued both in my department and within the company, but after nearly 12 years, and at the age of 50, I felt like it was time to start a new adventure, so I came to OC.”
OC is ecstatic to welcome Romeo to the OC family and watch how he will influence and inspire students in the Gaming and Animation program to ultimately reflect Christ in their work environment.
