Oklahoma Christian University to present “Tarzan” for the 2023 homecoming musical Nov. 2-4

Oklahoma Christian University presents “Tarzan,” a musical based on the 1999 Walt Disney film, Nov. 2-4 during OC’s homecoming weekend. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in Baugh Auditorium in the Garvey Center.

The book for the 2006 Broadway musical was written by David Henry Hwang, and the songs were written by singer Phil Collins. The show ran for 35 previews and 486 performances.

“Most people, when they hear Tarzan, immediately think of a young man flying through the trees in the movie,” Director Barbara Berard said. “There is more to it with the musical. There is a very heartfelt theme, which comes from the words of the popular song in the show written by Phil Collins. ‘Put your faith in what you most believe in. Two worlds, one family. Trust your heart, let fate decide to guide this life we see.’”

OC’s cast features a talented group of students. The show is led by sophomore Music majors Hannah Blair as “Jane” and Houston Goff as “Tarzan.”

“I’m most excited to see the audience’s reactions this weekend,” Blair said. ““Tarzan,” although a beloved movie, isn’t one of the most well-known musicals, so a lot of people will be seeing it for the first time. I think people are going to love the story and music, and I’m excited to hear what people have to say.”

The show would not be successful without members of the OC community. This year's production team includes Assistant Director Patricia Elmore, Music Director and Orchestra Conductor John Fletcher, Stage Manager Jenna Stilling and Producer Amanda Watson.

“We are thrilled to feature “Tarzan” as this year’s homecoming musical,” Watson said. “The dedicated cast is brimming with talent, and their performances are sure to captivate audiences with an unforgettable live theater experience.”

“Tarzan” tickets are $20 and can be reserved at www.oc.edu/events.
