Oklahoma Christian University’s English honor society to hosts fall events

Sigma Tau Delta is a national English honor society consisting of over 9,000 students and faculty. Oklahoma Christian University’s chapter has active members who write and present academic papers on literary concepts and travel to engage in conversation with scholars and peers. OC’s Sigma Tau Delta members also host fun events like Open Mic Night at the Brew on Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.

Sigma Tau Delta and Soundings, OC’s student-led literary journal group, invite students to sign up online to perform stand-up comedy, read poetry and perform music.

OC senior English Writing major Caleb Phelps is a member of Sigma Tau Delta.

“Our biggest event is where members can submit papers to a convention that occurs in the spring,” Phelps said. “If they get in, we travel to the convention and essentially host a panel about the paper.”

OC’s members annually submit scholarships and are accepted to present at the national convention to showcase their excellence in academic advancement and research. This allows students to exhibit their skills and hard work in a competitive environment.

The next convention is March 29-April 1 in Denver, Colorado. Sigma Tau Delta will host additional fundraising events throughout the year to help pay for travel costs such as an annual bake sale and a Christmas Market located in OC’s Lawson Pavillion co-hosted with Soundings each year.

Sigma Tau Delta is a great organization for students interested in English scholarship to build community and experience academic growth.
