The faculty in Oklahoma Christian University’s Education Program take pride in pursuing excellence as they prepare the next generation of teachers. As a testament to their work, the Education Program recently received leadership recognition from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, which helps teacher preparation programs strive for continuous improvement, quality assurance, credibility and equity.

Every seven years, OC’s Education Program must renew its accreditation through CAEP. OC’s most recent accreditation was in Spring 2020, and the board reviewers gave the program positive praise, finding no stipulations or areas of improvement, something few colleges achieve during the accreditation process.

Because of the exemplary results, OC was given the Frank Murray Leadership Recognition for Continuous Improvement from CAEP. Only 26 programs across the nation received this honor, and only one other program in Oklahoma did so.

Darin Martin, professor of education and director of teacher education at OC, noted that the award meant the Education Program is achieving all its goals and successfully preparing future educators.

“I was humbled and also very pleased that all our hard work paid off in terms of making sure we had a great program and all the work we put in for the visit and accreditation process,” Martin said.

Recognition from CAEP is exceptionally important for education programs, helping ensure a bright future for OC education students.
